How To Soothe A Sore Throat

This easy-counter medications can help relieve pain and pain quickly.

Sore throat can be the first sign of a cold, a side effect of strained vocal cords or be an indication that something more serious (such as sore throat).

Whatever the reason, your immediate concern when the pain strikes, how to help quickly. You may want to start with the doctor, but some of the best treatments for home remedies and over-the-counter medicines, said Jeffrey Linder, MD, an internist Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Here are 10 the next time you feel irritated try husky, or just sick.

Anti-inflammatory
One of the most effective treatments for a sore throat can have in your medicine cabinet: Over-the-counter, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Advil or Aleve.

"These drugs are combined, so they feel better analgesic and anti-inflammatory, and they will reduce some of the swelling to a sore throat," says Dr. Linder. "If you have a fever, which also contributes to their symptoms, they can help reduce that."

Several studies have shown that gargle several times a day with warm salt water can reduce the swelling in the throat and loosen mucus and help get rid of irritants or bacteria.

Doctors usually recommend Solve a half teaspoon of salt in a cup of water. If salty taste too unpleasant for you, try a small amount of honey, slightly sweeten the mix. (But do not forget to spit out the water after rinsing, and do not swallow!)

Lozenges and sprays
Sucking cough stimulates saliva production, which can help keep your throat moist. But many varieties are not more effective than hard candy, says Dr. Linder. Other advantages, choose the brand with the cooling or numbing ingredient is menthol or eucalyptus.

Over-the-counter sprays like Chloraseptic produce an effect similar to cooling cakes. They will not cure a sore throat, or help you with the main cold deal with it, but they can help relieve pain temporarily. Cough

If you go to work, be sure to choose a formula without drowsiness. But if you sleep problems because of the pain in the throat, the night is the formula NyQuil (analgesics and antihistamines contains) or AC Robitussin (guaifenesin and codeine) can relieve pain and help you get shuteye.
